BMW Repair: car wont start, battery seems fine, check voltage, service indicators

Question
My 2000 528 will not start.  I had the alternator and battery relaced approx. 2 yrs ago and they've been checked several times since then because it seems whenever the car is not used for a couple of days the red battery light goes on.  After running the car for several hours or jumping the battery, the red light always went off.

When I started the car this morning to go to work the battery light was on.  I ran the car for about twenty minutes until I reached work.  When I restarted the car a couple of hours later, the red battery light came on along with the Check engine light.  The car ran for another twenty minutes or so until I drove the car home to work.  When I started the car at night, both lights were on and on the way home after driving about five minute the car began to run in safe mode.  I parked the car in my driveway for a couple of hours.  It was then I decided to try to reset the service indicators by turning the key and pressing the odometer reset button.  Not only did it not reset - when I tried to start the car it just clicked.  I tried to jump the battery it still clicked - meanwhile everything else seems to work fine, battery, lights etc.  Any advice??

Answer
Victor, the vehicle battery is discharging most likely due to the alternator not suppling enough voltage (hence the battery light). Check voltage. You want it between 12.2-12.6 volts When the engine is running you want it between 13.0 - 14.5 volts (alternator charging). Please charge the battery and have the alternator tested or replaced. You can check to make sure all electrical connections are tight.
