-----Question-----
Hi Evan,
last week while driving, the car all of a sudden lost power and the 2 warning lights, the engine block light and the EML light came on. Of coure since the car was losing power, as I give it more gas, the DSC light came on since the car felt like it's slipping. Took it in the dealer and throttle body was replaced for about $600. As I was driving the following day, same thing happened again. Took it right back to dealer, they then said it's the DME controller. It would cost $1200. So I asked them if the throttle body was a unnecessary repair. The service advisor said they just went with a "print-out." and throttle body was the first one on the list. since that was clearly not the problem, they are willing to pay half of the "DME" replacement. So I will end up paying $1200 total.
My question is, is DME really the problem? Is it fair for me to pay for the throttle body repair at all? Is any of this work can be diy? I did a quick search through archive, someone mentioned wheel sensor also. Should I tell dealer to check wheel sensor also?

Please help!!!!

Answer
James, hard to say but this doesn't sound like a DME. Please make sure that the dealer has followed service bulletin 12 07 99 for procedure to replace the MDK throttle motor. I would also try to have the current DME software updated after the bulletin procedure was followed. I personally think that the tech may have overlooked the adaptation procedure described in the bulletin. The software update may or maynot help but it will only cost an hour to an hour and a half's labor. I would try this before shelling out for a new DME.
