BMW Repair: 2000 e39 wagon Tailgate shocks replacement, service books, special tools

Question
I purchased the tailgate shocks. I have the Bently service books but info is too sparse. Im unable to get the special tools they require. Can you help with more info? I can make my own tool or improvise it. I cant even see the front end of the shock. Is this done only from the back as the book says? Can this be a lot easier if I pull off the headliner? Will this be the rare job Im forced to have done at the dealer? I will soon replace window lift shocks as well. Right now the tailgate will not stay up/open.

Answer
Raul I am probably going to do this job at work this week as a customer special ordered the shocks, so I will let you know. I believe it would be easier with the headliner out but I'm not sure. Give me another post next week and I'll give you low down if the customer comes back in.
