BMW Repair: bmw 2002 X5, resistor pack, x5 bmw

Question
BMW 2002 X5

When my heater/cooler blower is on in the cabin you can constantly hear the blower increasing & decreasing in speed.  Kinda sounds like it's not getting enough power.  Like the alternator isn't suppling enough power.  Not sure. Any thoughts?  Thank you for any help.

Best,
Mark

Answer
Mark, make sure you have the updated style final stage resistor. The updated style will have aluminum heat sinks instead of the longer steel ones. This unit control regulates the blower speed for the fan and the older steel heat sink resistor that was originally equipped in your vehicle has a 100% failure rate. This resistor is placed in the passenger side of the heater box. Remove the passenger side carpeted console trim on the center console. You may need to remove the plastic panel under the glove box. You will see the electrical connector (5 or 6 wires) up by the firewall in the passenger footwell with the cover removed. It should be clipped in and use the wire connector to wiggle the unit out while depressing the black plastic clip. The Resistor pack is usually under a $100.00
