BMW Repair: oil pan, bmw 325i, pieces on the ground

Question
hey, I recently was driving my 1990 BMW 325i and I accidently ran up on a
curb that was not very visible and busted my oil pan and pump. I took a quick
look under the car and the steering and drivetrain seemed to be OK but my
oil pan was shattered. I know a person who cracked their oil pan but mine
exploded and there was many pieces on the ground. What other problems is
there with this badly broken oil pan and how would I be able to fix the pan
and the pump. Thank you

Answer
Daniel,
This happens quite often actually.  Its never happened to me, but I know several guys who have lowered BMW's that actually hit the pavement and crack the pan.
To fix the problem you will have to buy a new pan and pump.  I dont know how badly damaged the pump was, but if it ripped it from the block, it could have damaged the threads and they would need to be re-tapped.  Make sure it didn't crack the block around the oil pump as well... this would be most unfortunate.
Check on Ebay, there are always people parting these cars out and chances are you can find a cheap, used oil pan.

 Good luck,
 Josh
