BMW Repair: Transmission cold shift 1-2, transmission control module, cold shift

Question
1989 BMW 325i - recent replacement with factory rebuild trans. Does not shift from 1-2 until 3500-4000 rpm when cold (during initial take off from setting overnight or at work all day). Works fine once car has been driven couple of miles. Repair shop has adjusted kickdown cable. Any ideas?

Answer
Hello Dan,
Provided the transmission is OK, the installation is OK
(shift cables/levers and all that), the ATF fluid is OK
(this should be checked with engine running and in operating temperature), then I think that the EGS (transmission control module)must be reprogrammed. If after re-programming it is still bad, then the tranny itself is bad no matter what others say. But it would be wise to have it scanned by a suitable scanner if possible though not necessary.
By the way, do you mean to say that you bought a factory rebuilt tranny  and had it installed by somebody other than a dealer? Because if it was installed by a dealer, then defects are covered by warranty(labor and parts).
