BMW Repair: blower motor, amp fuse, electric cooling fan

Question
I drive a 2001 X5 3.0 L. My blower motor is not working at all, and is blowing the 50 amp fuse when I try to replace it. What could this be? I took off the shrouding in the engine compartment to get to the motor, but cannot get to it. The fan does not work at any setting. It also is the climate controlled motor. Buttons only, no knobs.

Answer
Dear Rob,
Am I right that it is the auxillary electric cooling fan in front of the radiator that you are talking about and not the evaporator blower fan inside the car? If yes,
it looks like it has a shorted motor or at least its built-in final stage is bad. First check if the wires going to it on the right side of the radiator is fine. If OK, then I do not even recommend diagnosing it further. Just replace it.
You have to remove or at least detach and pull a little forward the front bumper cover to be able to remove the auxillary fan. It is the whole assembly that you have to replace. It is not an easy job, but I can give you instructions if you wish. I do not want to give instructions and waste my time if you will not do it yourself.
