BMW Repair: Repiar on a 1988 325i motor, crankshaft pulley, crank shaft

Question
Will the head from a 2.7 work on a 2.5?
How can I loosen the crank shaft bolt to replace timing belt?
Where can I find good used engine parts?

Answer
Hi Tommy,
What year is the 2.7? There are a lot of 2.7's.
The only logical verification method is to look at the part number embossed on the head if there is any. Visual verification is not advisable since there could be subtle differences not readily apparent.
But to give you a straight answer--- I do not know. I have always refrained from doing conversion work of any kind.
If you mean the crankshaft bolt at the pulley area in front of the engine, to remove it, among other things the radiator and fan cowl must be removed, put no. 1 piston in top dead center and unscrew the main bolt. There is no hard and fast procedure so long as you are able to prevent the crankshaft/pulley from moving (since you would not have the factory tool anyway).
Regarding used parts, I do not have much experience in this.
Depending on where you are, I guess the yellow pages would be your best bet. Or maybe try Yahoo or Google search.
