BMW Repair: Squealing transmission, wheel bearings, 330xi

Question
I hear a squealing sound coming from behind me on my 2003 330xi. It stops happening when I accelerate, brake and put my clutch in. Also I do not have this problem in first and secondgear

Answer
Hi Paulo,
If you hear the squeal coming from behind you, chances are it is not due to the tranny. The tranny is directly below the center console box where the shifter is and so is the bell housing where the release bearing and the clutch are.
It could be due to the main propeller or the differential itself. But first you have to bring the car up in a hoist,
put off the DSC switch in the center console, run the engine and go thru the gears with somebody listening below the hoist to really find out where the noise is coming from. For all we know it could be bad wheel bearings or some other defect. You might even be right that it is the tranny. Even the clutch or release bearing.
