BMW Repair: 2000 BMW 528i rear light indicator, 2000 bmw 528i, bmw 528i

Question
I have the right rear light burned out indicator on but all the bulbs are working fine. Any thoughts on troubleshooting this?

Answer
Hi Daryl,
It only means that there is or are bulbs and sockets that are registering higher resistance than normal when tested by the lamp control module (even if they light up).
Look at the bulbs and you may see melting lead contacts.
Look at the bulb socket and you may see pitted or burnt contacts.
Look at the bulb socket retainer/receptacle and you may also see pitting of the contacts.
All of these can cause checklights. In some Beemers (3 series mostly), there is a cable connector that inserts to the bulb retainer which gets pitted/burnt out most notably in the ground connection.
All of them when present should be replaced.
And don't forget to the check the 3rd brakelight bulb and socket.
Have a nice weekend.
