BMW Repair: 1988 735i, tube pipe, brake cable

Question
We just purchased this car and we notice that when moving the seat back, the
seat reclines on one side more than the other.  If the seat is moved up as far as
possible, its not so bad, but the further you move the seat back the worse it
gets, seems as though the seat is turning towards the door.

Answer
Hi Brandon,
The cables of the longitudinal (read forward/backward)  seat adjusting motor is worn out. We normally first confirm which motor it is by running the switch and feeling beneath the seat which motor is running, remove the seat, then cut about 5/8 inch of the tube/pipe/housing of the cable and then make sure that the said cable is firmly attached to the seat to function properly (like in a bicycle brake cable, if the tube is not firmly attached, the cable will not work).
Which side to cut is easy. If it swerves to the right, it means that the left cable is working more than the right so the right has to be shortened. Vice versa. Remember, it is not the cable that has to be cut. Only the tube.
Tell me if it works or if you need more info.
