BMW Repair: BMW OBD Code : P1519, camshaft position sensor, obd scanner

Question
Hi,
On my 528i (1997) "Check Engine" is ON  and I'v got from the OBDII code reader the following code: P1519 (A Chamshaft Position Actuator Bank 1).
Any suggestion what that is mean or where is that part located?
Thank you.

Answer
Hi Jonu,
You are referring to a fault code read by an OBD scanner. Pls. double check the number and the description of the fault. I am not familiar with obd /none-factory fault codes.
You have to refer to your scanner's documentation.
Normally it means that a fault had been recorded for the circuit of the camshaft position sensor. It does not automatically mean that the cam sensor is defective. Also, while there are really banks 1 and 2 in your engine (bank 1 is cylinders 1 to 3, and bank 2 cylinders 4 to 6), there are 2 cam sensor types present (the exhaust which is in the front right area of the engine near the fan, and the intake cam sensor which is in the left front side area near the top). Which is being mentioned by your OBD scanner is the one that you may have to replace.
Replacing any of the cam sensors is easy.

Tino
