BMW Repair: E36 lighting problem, hazard flashers, lighting problem

Question
I have a '95 325i.  Recently after starting my car, I turned the headlights on and noticed that both of my internal turn signal lights were on solid without flashing.  I checked my hazard flashers and they were not on.  My turn signal lever was also not engaged in either direction.  I kept the lights on and got out of the car to see if any of my lights were not working and noticed that not only were my normal parking and headlights on, but all of my front and rear turn signal lights were also on and were not flashing.  I engaged my turn signal lever left and right, but the turn signals would not work.  They just remained solid.  I then turned my lights off.  I engaged my turn signal lights in both directions and they worked properly.  Therefore, I only experience this problem when I turn my parking lights and/or my headlights on.  I did not receive any type of interior caution or warning indications in the car.  Thoughts?

Answer
Hi Tim,
From your story, it is obvious that you have a bad light switch. If it is the type that you turn (rotary), you can replace by-- a) removing the lower dashboard cover b) pull the
light switch knob out, for better grip stick masking tape on it first then pull outward c) unscrew the nut holding the switch d)pull the switch from behind, remove cable connector and replace e) when placing the new switch into the hole,
take care that the notch goes where it should be.
Removal of the lower dashboard cover at the left side of the dashboard is a little tricky, the cover has an insert that goes into a hole in the dashboard. Take care not to force and damage the cover or dashboard.
