BMW Repair: timing chain noise?, timing chain, waterpump

i have a 1991 318i 4 banger,my question is the motor sounds like the timing chain is noise,or ihe guides are bad. does the car even have a timing chain or belt? the noise is in the front of the motor timing chain area. thanks

 Unfortunately I cannot tell you what is making the noise.  That's something you will have to figure out.  It could be a waterpump going out, timing chain, loose pully vibrating, valvetrain out of adjustment... the list goes on...
