BMW Repair: CHECK REAR BREAK LIGHT, 2003 bmw 530i, service bmw

Question
Dear Expert,
I have a 2003 BMW 530i.  The right rear break light has gone out....I was wondering, is this something that I can change on my own?  How would I go about doing that, and can I buy the bulb anywhere?

I am looking forward to your advice.  Thank you very much in advance, I think its wonderful that you are providing this service....BMW should be thankful to you.

Regards,
Yaniv

Answer
Yaniv, I dont think BMW would appreciate me giving way information for free, but on the other hand they make money from recomended parts. Changing brake light bulbs are not a big deal. You should be able to get bulbs at any auto store or BMW dealer. Open trunk and there should be covers on the inner tail light housing. Either twist style retainers or push lock style. Wiggle out cover. Figure out which bulb isn't lighting up and turn bulb socket couter-clockwise and remove. Remove bulb from socket and inspect contacts on the socket. If socket is worn or pitted then replace aswell as the bulb.
