BMW Repair: 1994 318is no crank - no start, starter wire, steering column

Question
I never had any problem on starting the car. The car has a strong starting mode until this afternoon. I was moving things in the garage, so I moved the car to the side for about 5 minutes. I had no problem on starting when moving the car. But when I came back to move the car in the garage, the car wouldn't start. The car has all electrical working; the cluster, lights, alarm, horn, and radio. But there's no crank at all from the engine. There's a complete silent in the engine bay. I thought it's my starter kill from my Alpine Alarm, so I uninstalled the whole alarm unit. I disconnected all wires, removed the relay for the starter wire, and connected back the starter wire under the steering column. However, I had no luck - still remained the same. It seems there's no power in the starter at all. I never had any problem like this before. The car has always been strong until this afternoon. One thing thought, I can't find the fuse for the starter. I am hoping you could help me.

Answer
Jeff,
It's possible that your starter has just locked up.  If you take a hammer and lightly tap on the side of the starter (easier said than done), it should dislodge the starter and alow it to turn.  You'll probably need some help doing this, have a friend sit in the driver's seat and turn the key while you tap on the starter.  I mean "tap" not hit a home run, dont dent the starter.  you'll notice that it's pretty tough, but you could still damage the starter, and then you'll be replaceing one.

 Good luck,
 Josh
