BMW Repair: stalls out when excellerating, upper radiator hose, airflow meter

Question
I have a 1987 325i BMW that a few months back the fan belt broke, which caused it to over heat.
I replaced the fan belt and the upper radiator hose.  When I did this I have to remove the air cleaner and the, (I think it is called) airflow meter.  The part that is attached to the top part of the air intake, near the air filter.
Anyway, since then I am not able to excellerate for it stalls out and dies.  it starts fine and idles fine, and if I feather the thottle I can get some RPM's out of it but I am not able to drive it very fast.
I have a feeling that the airflow meter is not working.  What would be your thoughts on this?

Answer
Sounds like you have a crack in the rubber boot between the air meter and the engine.
When you accel. the engine lifts up and pulls the crack open allowing unmetered air in.
These boots all get hard and crack.
The crack may be hard to see. Remove the boot and check it top to bottom.
