BMW Repair: 97 740il Battery Alternator Replacement, plastic enclosure, fuses

Question
I have a 97 740IL with a no charge condition. I changed the battery. Checked the output of the alternator and determined the alternator needed replacement. After replacement still does not charge. Checked all fuses to include the rear fuses in the trunk. Also this is an air cooled alternator. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!!!

Answer
I believe there was a problem with this. on the drivers side of the engine under the big cover that says BMW, you'll see a black plastic enclosure with locking tabs. in there, one of the wires is part the charging circuit. there was a bulletin to install a device inline with this wire. sometimes, techs didn't crimp the connectors well enough, and it would cause the car not to charge. check this wire out, i'm not sure of the color, but you should be able to determine it by the inline device
