BMW Repair: 1995 bmw 740i, bmw of north america, bmw 740i

Question
Didn't know about the recall on the 95 740's until after I made my purchase.  It has always had a rougher idle but recently wouldn't start so I had to take it to the shop.  They got it running and informed me of my problem.  Said the problem relates to the sulfer in the gas and the nickisle(sp) coating used in the cylinders.  I was told i needed to spend 8 grand on a new short block.  Question - What happens if I keep driving it? Will it just keep getting worse until it dies?
and do you know of any cheaper means to get this done?  I still owe 10 grand and can't afford to spend 8 more. My conscience will not allow me to dump my problems on another person........

Answer
did you bring it to the bmw dealer? the job is quite expensive to do. it was a recall on 8 cylinder engines during a specific production time frame. if a bmw dealer is going to charge you, try contacting bmw of north america to see if they can provide some sort of relief.
