BMW Repair: Water in oil?, head gasket, head gaskets

Question
Paul,
I own a 1998 740il.I recently had a radiator go bad and the car overheated and died. After replacing the radiator, I also changed the oil as well. When I drained the oil it had a white milky color. Is this due to overheating or is this an indication of water in the oil? If this is water in the oil how do I find where it is getting into the oil?

Thank You,
Gary Fultz

Answer
how bad did the car overheat? that condition in the oil could be a few things. one of the head gaskets may be leaking and coolant is getting into the oil or the car overheated so badly that one of the heads may have warped, causing the head gasket not to seal. did you ever notice white smoke from the exhaust at all times? that is usually an indicator that the head gasket is leaking. check your coolant, is there any oil in it?. is the oil changed regularly? check the oil to see if it has the white milky color again.
