BMW Repair: Drivers seat stuck, bmw 328i, electric seat

Hello, I have a 97' convertible BMW 328i and I am trying figurer out how to fix one of the electric seat controls.  Only the back and forth control works, the seat back control is not responding?  Is this something a DIY can do or do I need to take it in?

when you press the recline button, do you hear the seat trying to move? most commonly the switch goes bad or the plastic button breaks. The electric motor for that function may have gone bad however. If you hear the motor running, the drive cable may have popped out.
