BMW Repair: 1988 735,cooling problem, head gasket, combustion chamber

Hello,I have a 1988 735 and it seems to be lossing coolant,but no leaks and no rise in oil level,How can I check to see if the head gasket is bad? No white smoke out of the exhaust either.Thank you

You could try putting dye in the coolant to see if it shows up in the oil, it's possible that the coolant is boiling off in the oil.  It's more likely though that the leak is so slow into the combustion chamber that you can't see it in the exhaust.
