Question
-------------------------
when should you bring your car in for an Inspection.  Should you go by the mileage or by the service indicator lights.  The manual says to go by the indicator lights but my repairman says every 7500 miles.  Which is correct?

I have a 1994 740il.  When scheduling a Inspection should you go by the mileage driven or the service indcator lights?
Also, the book say to change the oil every 7500 miles.  I have been changing it every 3000 which is correct.
Thanks very much,

The more you change your oil the better. Generally speaking synthetic oil does not break down untill about 8000-9000miles however, particles get obsorbed into the oil; contaminents in the oil wear down the metal at a mycroscopic level. In short, changeing it every 3000 miles will only help.

Answer
OOps, forgot to answer a question!

I guess it all depends on who you think knows more about what the car needs,  the auto manufacture or the mechanic.  It has always been my belief that BMW knows best (considering the millions of dollars invested in research and development).
Regardless, bring the car in every 7500 miles is quite excessive, BMW knows this because otherwise they wouldn't have installed the lights.  It is important to have the scheduled maintenance done, I believe that is in your cars owners manual (thermostat, water pump ect).
