BMW Repair: Heater A/C controls, e36 m3, cheers

Hey Micheal i have a 98 E36 M3 and i am having problems with the heater a/c controls in that it turns on and off without me touching the controls. Any ideas what the problem could be.?

The A/C turns on and off or the blower? or do you get a range from hot to cold?
if it's just the A/C it could be because you have it on defrost.
let me know more about the problem and i can attempt to assist you better.
