BMW Repair: Temprature readout, series bmw, series model

I have a 1996 7 series BMW and the twin digital readout for the car temprature is becoming is unreadable. Can this be repaired and if so how?

Yes.
it's expensive to have done and most mechanics destroy the dash in the process of getting it out. Unless this car is not the 7 series 96 i am thinking about (they made more than one seven series model this year with different computers and display screens.)
though it sounds like the backlight is the most likely culprit.
