GMC Repair: ABS, drb scan tool, brain fart

Question
QUESTION: Hello there,

I have a 2000 Z-71 4x4 and it just started to experience an ABS problem. On dry surfaces and at low speeds when appling the brakes my ABS activates. The ABS light is not on. I've removed the sensors and cleaned. I have removed the fuse and of course the problem does not exist. I appreciate any info of troubleshooting guidance.

ANSWER: the abs should work at all speeds. if you brake hard, it will be more pronounced. i would bleed the abs. i need more information about your bicycle. is the truck a 1500, 2500, 3500?

ABS system bleeding requires conventional bleeding methods plus use of the DRB scan tool. The procedure involves performing a base brake bleeding, followed by use of the scan tool to cycle and bleed the HCU pump and solenoids. A second base brake bleeding procedure is then required to remove any air remaining in the system.

Perform base brake bleeding. Refer to the appropriate section.

Connect the scan tool to the data link connector beneath the dashboard.

Select "Antilock Brakes" followed by "Miscellaneous", then "Bleed Brakes". Follow the instructions displayed until the unit displays "Test Complete", then disconnect the scan tool and proceed.

Perform a base brake bleeding a second time.

   Top up the master cylinder.
