GMC Repair: chevy is close to gmc lol, flow master muffler, chevy blazer

Question
hi...i have a 95 chevy blazer...for the past year or so occasionally(mostly when has been running a while)it would whistle like and sometimes cut off, but if i would wait 3 or 4 min it would start back up and b ok.its done this maybe 4 or 5 times in the past year. the other day coming home i heard a pop(backfire?)then my car lost power...the lights were still on and the car was still running but i was going 50 and it just slowed down on its own, so i pulled over and cut it off.friend got there and drove it (badly running) about half a mile to the gas station and when he got there it cutt off and would not cut back on.he said the fuel pump(his idea of what was wrong)was ok so he tried a coil pack and it started and ran (didnt drive it)for about 5 mins then cut off and now wont start...i know i know u have to see it or check it with the machine thing, but i was hoping really bad that u would have an idea of what else to try..fuel pump was replaced about 3yrs ago new spark plugs and fuel filter 1yr ago...thats about it its been a great car!

Answer
Do a compression test. You can get a cheap tester at any "chain" auto part store. when you have the results email them to me: marvin.saunders69@yahoo.com If you would email them to me in the following format:

1-150    2-141

3-145    4-145

5-147    6-151

The whistle could have been a leak in the intake, but if it was quite noticeable, it could be a cracked block and/or head, worst case.

NOTE**********

I thought of something else. You may want to check your catalyst (exhaust converter). Personally, I would cut if off. I could have stopped up and blew a head gasket. If you get it started, feel the exhaust with your hand. If it is not significant and hot, cut it off. It will improve your performance as well. Later, if you want, have a flow-master muffler put on. I have a '99 Dodge Ram. My converter stopped up (replaced it), and I did install a flow-master muffler. It helped a great deal. I would put some Lucas fuel injector cleaner in the tank as well. If you have a carb, do not do this. It will eat the O-rings out. If you have a throttle body. That is a fuel injection that looks like a carb, round in shape and has a "traditional" round air cleaner.
