If you are clueless with all due respect just say you dont know and I will continue trying to find a solution. Thank you
Question:
My 94 chevy astro van AWD has no power to the headlights or the interior lights and no power to fuel pump the starter will turn over but no engine start. I had changed the relay and it started. As soon as I turned the headlights on it turned back off and back to the same problem. Any suggestion and advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advanve for taking the time to answer my question.

ANSWER: I am not CLUELESS to your issue. There is no reason for you to make an assumption that my knowledge is nonexistent. Automotive repair is nothing very similar to any professional practice. There is not one auto mechanic that knows everything about every single make and model. Any mechanic will tell you that. Go to autozone get a fifty dollar scanner. I feel you have a problem/short in your wiring harness.

QUESTION: I'm sorry if I offend you, I just didn't understand how you answered my question the first time with "I already answered this question" when it was the first time I asked the question. I do understand that there is no one mechanic that knows everything about every single make and model. I also understand that auto mechanical work requires a lot of research and reading up on the new trends. Its a profession where you keep learning. Thank you for replying back. I was assuming that it was some sort of short in the wiring as well. I'm clueless on how to fix it. One of the things I was thinking of doing was trying to trace the four wires that attached to the relay, but that seems like alot of work. The scanner from autozone will that detect the problem?

ANSWER: I evidently mistakenly confused your question with another. My apologies. Wiring issues has to be the number one nemesis of all mechanics that I know. The scanner will get you close and save you time. Especially in newer makes and models. That is the course of action I would pursue.

QUESTION: Thank you for your assitance. I will take your advice and pursue with purchasing the scanner. I will also keep you inform of my progress. Also, do you know the name of the scanner that you are talking about, so it can be easier for me to purchase. If it is the OBD scanner, does it matter if the engine light is on or not? Because my engine light is not on.

Answer
I bought the Actron brand OBD-II scanner. You should locate your diagnostic port before you go. If not, they can help. If I remember correctly you should need a OBD I scanner. There are several different models. Depends on how much money you want to spend. Mine paid for itself in a month.

The engine light does not have to be on to pick up codes. It should be internet update-able. It will pick up anything outside the normal parameters via ECU or ECM. Keep me posted.
