speedometer
2005 GMC Sierra 1500 crew cab 4WD Z71 w/ automatic trans and 5.3 V-8. My speedometer is going off. It does not return to zero when stopped either. it will stop anywhere from 20-70 mph so when i start moving again it goes up from there. i could be going 55 mph but my speedometer will be pegged at 120. any thoughts or direction would be greatly appreciated. -thank you

Take it to the dealer, and see if it qualifies for a special coverage recall that was given on the IP cluster.
There is a time and mileage limitation so the sooner the better.
If it does not fall under the recall your 2 options are
1) a used IP Cluster from a salvage facility or
2)Get the dealership to order and install a cluster. They'll get the Part number, usually order the cluster overnight, install and program the new cluster.
This is one jobe with the new part you CANNOT DYI, because the new clusters come unprogrammed and the mileage set at -0- miles and -0- hours. The dealer has the program avalible to set the mileage and hours on a new cluster
