GMC Repair: Body Control Module, 2007 gmc acadia, gmc acadia

Question
QUESTION: Tim...what exact components/features are contolled by the BCM in a 2007 GMC Acadia?

ANSWER: well in short just about everything pass through the BCM on an Acadia, lighting, instuments, entertainment on and on, the BCM monitors just about everything, it might not control alot of stuff, hence there are modules for the doors, seats etc.  But it does monitor it on a class 2  data line

QUESTION: Tim...thanks, I appreciate the information.

1. What is a class 2 data line and how is it related to the BCM?

My problem is, my Acadia has had several leaks which have caused some major damage (mold and corrosion) in the vehicle.  The corrosion was found in the fuse block behind the glove box - dealer replaced.  I had the vehicle re-inspected by an independent company b/c I wasn't confident the dealer checked everything like I requested and the independent found more corrosion in one of the main harness connectors behind the kick panel on the passenger side.  I saw it and took photos.  Independent said that corrosion could potentially cause several problems and could affect the BCM - that is why I'm asking for detail on the BCM and it's components....I'm trying to determine if the corrosion could (at some point) adversely affect the BCM and potentially be a safety issue if a component fails or malfunctions.  Basically, could BCM failure or malfunction cause a safety concern?  If so, could you give an example (ie) lights going out while driving at night or braking system failure etc....  Thanks Tim.

Answer
really it would only affect the BCM if you had a short to power that could possibly fry out the bcm, ie: if a wire that had voltage running to it was corroded through and made contact with a non power wire, such as a signal wire or ground.  We have seen alot of acadias with water leaks that have ruined the right hand side fuse block, usually fixed with a replacement of the effected fuse block.  Are you getting any codes from the BCM?  if not it is probably safe to say it is ok, though you will need to repair any corroded wires
