GMC Repair: 2000 gmc safari, gmc safari, power steering fluid

Question
on a 2000 gmc safari the power steering and brakes have failed . The power steering fluid level is high and murky, the rad is low.  Is this radiator fluid in the power steering fluid?  If so there must be an oil cooler.  If that is the case is the pump ok or does it need to be replaced as well?

Answer
So you have no power steering and no power brakes, a few things could cause this, 1) a broken pulley shaft on the power steering pump, the power steering pump also powers the brakes, through a unit called the hydroboost that mounts behind the master cylinder.  2) the hydroboost unit may have failed, but unlikey since you have no brakes or steering assist.  3) yes there is a cooler on some safari vans it is mounted to the front of the radiator but does not have any coolant flowing through it.  When you say the fluid is murky, does it look creamy?  or have bubbles in it?  Best of Luck
