GMC Repair: 2002 GMC Yukon Starter, gmc yukon, luck steve

Question
Hi,
I am trying to remove the starter from my 2002 GMC Yukon 4WD (not XL, not Denali).  After removing the 2 bolts from the starter and the screw from the plastic cover, I can slide the starter back a little.  However, there isn't enough room to slide it back far enough to get the starter to drop from inside the transmission.  Is there a trick?

Also, after removing the starter, what is the best way to check it out?  Do I only need to hook 12vdc to it?

Thanks.
Steve

Answer
the best thing to tell you is what is in the way, Most times when truying to take out the starte you have to manuever it around and out but see wht you can move or loosen up under there that you can get it out. Yes you can check the starter by taking it to like autozone or napa or checkers they can test it. Good luck steve.
