GMC Repair: 99 gmc sierra, gmc sierra, ford chevy

Question
Hello, I have a 99 gmc sierra, 5.3 with a loud belt squeal.  I changed the serp. belt, but still squelling.  Are the tension pulley or idler pulley a problem with these trucks?

Thanks,
Ken

Answer
Hi
If you remove the belt and start vehicle is squeel still present?
If so, it MAY be the A/C serp belt or tensioner.
If you remove that belt and squeel is still present, you MAY have an internal engine problem (cam).
IF NO noise with main belt removed, turn each pulley be hand. Any roughness or a binding MAY be your cause.
I have run into a few tensioners.
You'll know it when you spin it.
you MAY also check the belt.... if they are a few millimeters too long, they will cause a belt squeel, yet go on tight.
I ALWAYS recommend a factory belt, regardless of make (Ford, chevy, toyota). They are ALWAYS the right length and have the correct pitch between the ribs. They cost more, but it is piece of mind.
I hope this helps!
Good Luck
