GMC Repair: PCV VALVE REPLACEMENT, wd 40, gmc jimmy

Question
Dear Mr.CajunSC,
I want to replace the PCV valve of my 2000 GMC Jimmy 4.3liter engine. Whe i try to pull it, there is a strong resistance and I might break the pcv grommet. Is this normal because it is now very old rubber grommet?
Do I have to remove the valve cover just to change the PCV valve, or I will just pull it from the top of the cover?

Answer
Hi
It is very possible you MAY break the grommet. I have seen them break in the past.
Try dabbing alittle BRAKE FLUID around the rubber. This MAY soften it....or...spray it with WD-40 or similar...some type of penetrating oil.
I can tell you this, it will be worth it to pull it out and see what, IF anything breaks. If so just replace that part, as the valve cover is MUCH more involved to replace.
I hope this helps
