GMC Repair: 98 gmc jimmy fuel problem?, muffler shops, gmc jimmy

Question
i have a 98 gmc jimmy with a 4.3l today it started to act up, rpm were up and down, it would buck and sputter, i checked the fuel filter it was plugged so i replaced it, no change, I'm thinking its a weak pump due to a plugged filter. any ideas

Answer
Hi
I would recommend a tune up, plugs, plug wires, dist, cap, rotor, air filter.
If still acting up, I would check fuel pressure (60-66psi)NO MORE, NO LESS.
If out of specs, suspect the fuel pump.
If thats OK, I would have the catalytic converter checked.
(Most muffler shops will do this for free).
Thats where I would start.
Good Luck
