GMC Repair: 2000 Buick Century Custom 3.1, cruise control module, shade tree mechanics

Question
This car was given to me by my daughter. It had the wiring harness eaten by varmints. First, the harness was replaced by shade tree mechanics, ended up being the wrong one (2001, not 2000). It did not work and has since been replaced by a GM dealership. The cruise control did not work after the wrong harness was installed and still does not work, but was working prior to the harness being eaten. My husband noticed there is an empty place for a micro relay under the hood in the fuse block where it is labeled "f/pmp spd cont." He was wondering if this had anything to do with the cruise not working. The first "mechanics" who worked on the car did remove some things and didn't replace them. I would appreciate any kind of help you could give us. Thanks.

Answer
Hi
The f/pump spd cont" is for a REGAL only. They probabally use the same harness/fuse block for Regal/Century ("W" platform cars).
Next, what did they remove and not repalce?
The cruise consists of the switch on the column, the stop lamp switch, the Cruise release switch, cruise control module and the PCM (power train control module)
The dealership SHOULD be able to Diagnose this in 30 mins or less using a special ESSENTIAL tool they supposed to have (J 42958). This would plug into the cruise module and the switches can be tested. If all checks out the PCM can be observed for cruise inhibit, on off, etc.... All this should not take very long.
I hate to slam anothers work, but YOU spent the money to have the car repaired. (probabally good money also).
The FIRST "Mechanic" should now pay to have the dealership fix it properly. But as I Know that'll probabally never happen, unfortunatly, I would again, take it to the dealership and see if they could diagnose the cruise system, at least to tell you what is wrong, so it can be properly repaired. You do have recipts. Keep going up the ladder.... service advisor, service manager, general manager and Dealer principal (owner). If nothing else, take it to another dealership.... but EXPLAIN the WHOLE story to them, so they'll have a good place to start. Fresh eyes sometimes help. It is a fairly simple system. GM has used this type system for almost 20 years. It is NOT that hard.
I really am sorry for your bad experiences.
I Do hope this helps.
Follow post back, if needed.
Good luck
