GMC Repair: 1999 Saturn SC2- shorted I/P fuse block?, electric locks, saturn sc2

Question
My electric locks haven't been working, and I've been told that there was an internal short to the I/P fuse block.  Can you tell me what this means and if it will affect anything else in my car if I wait a few weeks to have it replaced?

Answer
Hi
The fuse block is a bussed electrical center. There are hard wired circuits that run through the fuse block. It is like a "junction" point for various circuits they just pass through. When there is an internal short, one or two of the hard wires circuits could touch and create a short. Since they are hard wired, the only option is to replace the entire box.
Chances are, though you don't have a short, but rather an open circuit. (one or more of the hard wire circuits "break apart" so the electrical current is stopped at that open point) Different name, same fix or repair, entire fuse block.
It is likely, I have seen it happen many times on other GM vehicles.
As far as affects, If you are not having any other problems of an electrical nature, it SHOULD be OK.
I have to say, though, you are dealing with a car, so ANYTHING can happen.
I hope this answers your question.
I also hope this helps.
Just advice from experience.
Post again if anything else is needed.
Good Luck
