GMC Repair: Transmission GMC, mechanic shop, torque converter

Question
Hey,   I am having a GMC Envoy 2002 model, unfortunately where I live there is no representative of  GMC and the services is very very poor, as I had a problem with the automatic gear transmission after the tube broke and the transmission was completely empty of oil so the car wasn’t moving after repairing the tube and adding a new transmission oil the car moves normal for some KM then stopped again the oil we add was 5 lit is it enough or too much ??? by the way the car can move if it rest for a while and then it stop again? ??? I think the doubt is cause the oil, how many liters is the capacity of the transmission ????
Thanks and Regards

Answer
Hi
Fluid capacity will depend on how much fluid was pumped out as well as the diameter of the Torque Converter.
Here is the list of converter sizes and capacities in
liters and US quarts
245 mm Torque Converter Approximate Fluid Capacity Dry Fill
8.3 L
8.8 qts

258 mm Torque Converter Approximate Fluid Capacity Dry Fill
8.8 L
9.3 qts

298 mm Torque Converter Approximate Fluid Capacity Dry Fill
11.25 L
11.9 qts

300 mm Torque Converter Approximate Fluid Capacity Dry Fill
11.50 L
12.1 qts

My best advice would be to know how much you have in transmission now, and add to make it 8.3L.
Start vehicle and allow it to get warm. Check trans fluid ON A LEVEL SURFACE, WITH TRUCK RUNNING, IN PARK.
Then add in increments to 8.8L, recheck, then to the next level and so on, until you achieve the proper fluid level.
If it still does not move or move properly, you may need to take it to a mechanic shop, if avalible and have internal trans checked (possible burned pump).
Good Luck
Hope this helps
