GMC Repair: Electrical, blowing the fuses, s10 blazer

Question
Hi,
I have a 92' S10 Blazer 2wd (4.3L TBI), and a couple of days ago, all the gauges in the dashnoard just stopped working, so i checked the fuse box and the 20A fuse for the ign/gauge was blown so I thought no biggie just replace it.  Well is wasn't that easy as I thought, it keeps blowing the fuses as soon as I turn the key to the ON position without turning on the car, so I left it like that for a couple of days, then to my surprise the battery went dead, so i checked the voltage on the alternator and it wasn't hitting 12v while running so I went ahead and replaced it and after i installed it and finshed charging the battery, i started the car and checked the voltage again and it still wasn't charging the battery, so I exchanged the alternator and it was still doing the same thing, so it brings me back to the blown fuse issue, i guess whatever is causing the fuse to blow is also preventing the alternator from charging the battery.  Do you have any ideas that I can try?

thanks

Jose

Answer
Hi
I looked at the schematic and I would say to unplug the fuel pump purple wire (fuel pump located inside tank). Unplug the connector from on top of tank or find a connector in that harness from front to tank and disconnect your purple wire. See then if your short goes away. If so, you need a fuel pump. If not, unplug the instrument cluster and see if the short goes away. These are the only 2 loads off that fuse, the Instrument cluster and the fuel pump.
Hope it helps.
