GMC Repair: 93 Suburban flasher unit, turn signal flasher, gmc suburban

Question
I have a 93 GMC Suburban 350. Only 220k miles, still good compression, runs great, always had Mobile 1 in it. Small problem.  The turn signal flasher intermittantly goes on and off for no reason. Turn signal and hazard flashers still work fine. The flasher unit just seems to chime in and do it's own thing by itself periodically. Then stop, then restart, then stop.  It is getting worse and more frequent.  I used to be able to stop it by turning on the signal, then cancelling, not anymore.  I am guessing it is a bad flasher, though it is possibly a short somewhere.  It is somewhere under the dash.  Questions 1. Is this common 2. I will replace the flasher, where is it. 3. What else could it be?

Answer
Hi
Sounds like you are correct, sounds alot like the Flasher.
It is located under the dash to the left (drivers side) of the steering column. It is located in a convience center, with a couple other relays.
It is common to the point that it is an electrical device, so they are prone to go bad. Have a changed alot of them? not really, although I have changed some.
What else it could be. It could be the switch (though the symptoms do not sound like it) or wiring (again does not sound like it) It sounds like an Intermintant connection internal in the flasher.
If in doubt, it never hurts to get a second opinion from a repair shop your familiar with, but I do not think you will be wrong to replace that part.
Just advise from experience.
Hope it helps and Good Luck
