GMC Repair: GMC JIMMY, flat screwdriver, water deflector

Question
Hello, My speaker in the driver door isn't working. How can i take off the door panel to look at the speaker and wires. its a 95, with power locks and power windows.

Answer
Hi
This is the actual procedure from GM
Remove or Disconnect
first unhook battery negative cable.

1)Door handle bezel.
2)Window regulator handle (if equipped).
3)Power accessory switch mounting panel (if equipped with power accessories).
4)Handle bezel screw. Carefully pry off trim panel armrest screw cover with a flat blade tool to access screw.
5)Trim panel from the door. Pry the retainers from their seats using trim clip removing tool.

The door bezel is the small plastic piece the inside door handle fits into. Should just pop out
you will not have step 2
This is your power swithces. get a small thin bladed flat screwdriver and pry up on the front edge. Pull up the front and slide the rear out. You will have to unplug all wire harness connectors from switch assy.
Step four is the large screw holding the handle/armrest assy to the door. remove the small round "plug" on handle and the screw is either a #3 phillips (large) or a T-30 torx bit (star bit) After removing screw the only thing holding panel on is trim retainers. They can be diffucult to remove sometimes. They make a special tool to get between the door and the door panel and pry them out of door. There will be a good number of them, 10-15 probally all around the outer edge of the door panel. They should stay on the panel, not in the door. IF they stay in the door, no worry, just pry them out or pull them with pliers.
They are called (chritsmas tree locks) sometimes, because of their shape.
After removing anel, there should be a thick peice of plastic (like thick Visqueen sheeting) the shape of door. It will be held on by black pliable RTV. This is the water deflector. It must go back on before door panel, or  you could get water on your carpet. You should then be able to see the speaker. It should be held in by either (2) 7mm head small bolts or (2) clips.  Hope this helps. Please email me if further help is needed or if these instructions are unclear. I try to do my best to remember everything to help you. It is not really that hard, I think you will be OK doing it. As should be obvious, install everything in reverse when putting it back together.
Good Luck
Paul
