GMC Repair: 98 jimmy key wont come out gages dont work, gmc jimmy, harnes

Question
i have a 98 gmc jimmy and the key wont come out of the ignition. i located the problem that a wire was disconnected from a harnes the connected to the floor gear shifter. the wire has com out again and it no longer works i broke the harness trying to fix it it has six holes and 5 wires. i have a new harness from a bravada and i wired that one in and it doesnt work i checked fuses under the hood and on the side panel they are fine. i think that the wires from the bravad harness are in different holes. i dont know what to do

Answer
You need to replace your shifter assembly more then likely. There is a solenoid attached to the shifter called a Brake Transmission Shift Interlock Solenoid, or BTSI, and if it goes out then you can't shift out of park or take the key out. Also there is a solenoid in the column, but it is rare that it goes out. The BTSI is the normal failure because of cola spills into the console.
