GMC Repair: wiper arm front windshield, rain storm, pivot point

Question
hi jim,

i have a 97 jimmy se and the front right wiper works intermitently while the
left perfectly. it has been on and off for a few months and recently became so
out of sinc that it pulled off the opposite blade during a rain storm. with
closer inspection i notice the arm may be moved along its path by hand with
little resistance while the other is tight to the arm pivot point. i pulled off the
cover at the pivot point and the bolt seems to be tight. is the arm stripped at
this point? i would like to fix this myself and am wondering if this problem is
common  and possibly easy to diagnose or symptomatic of multiple
problems.  your input would be greatly appreciated.

thanks, rob

Answer
The easy fix is to remove the arm, put lock-tite on the pivot splines and re-install the arm and tighten. It will hold tha arm much better and it not freeze it on so that it cannot be removed later. You could replace the arm if you would like, or if this does not work, the pivot should be o.k..
