GMC Repair: power windows, 1997 pontiac sunfire, pontiac sunfire

Question
i have a 1997 pontiac sunfire.  the power window controller for all four windows is on the center console and it has a rear window controller on both rear doors.  the driver side front window does not work at all.  all other three windows are slow and somtimes dont work with either controller.  when i press the center controller, i can hear a click in the door of the window that i am trying to open. what do you think is wrong? thanks for your help

Answer
It sounds like your window motors are failing. The best way to check this is to remove the door panel of the door that the window is not working in, i.e. driver front, then the others when they stop working, and use a test light to see if you are getting power to the motor when you push on the switch. If you are getting power for both directions and the window is not working then the motor is bad. Also I have known motors to start clicking when failing because of the internal gear striping.
