GMC Repair: INSTALLING A WINDOW LIFT MOTOR??, silverado 4x4, brown wires

Question
Chevy, not a GMC. But Thanks for your help anyway!

Hi, I have a 1988 Chevy P/U, Silverado
4x4
5.7 L
(k)1500
**On my Drivers side, the electric window goes DOWN but will NOT go UP!
**I assume that the electric window "LIFT MOTOR" is not working properly and has to be replaced, correct?
**If it was the switch, wouldn't it also prevent the window from going DOWN?
**If you believe that in this case, it is the window lift motor, can you please tell me the (LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY)would be in REPLACING IT?
**Do I have to be a skilled Body Parts Person to do this?
**Ay this point, I already have the drivers side-panel off.
**Is there going to be any CUTTING of the metal to get to this unit?
**Please......any help or advise would truly be appreciated!

Thanks!!
Tom/Pa.

Answer
Hi,Tom

I have seen switches cause this also, you can test the switch by using a test light, test the blue and brown wires from the switch, connect a test lamp one end to the blue wire and then the probe end to the brown wire, activate the switch either up or down and see if the light comes on,it should, next switch the test light, this time one end to the brown wire then probe the blue wire, again it should light,if not then the switch is failed.
Removeing the window regulator/motor is not to bad,you need to drill out the rivets that hold it in place, remove the old one through the inside of the door panel that is secured by 10 7mm screws, there is also a guide that needs to be removed, this will slide off of the window channel as you remove the metal panel, tape the window in place so it doesnt come crashing down.i use duct tape.let me know if you need more help.
