GMC Repair: park lights stay on when light switch is off, fuse box, cadillac deville

Question
Hello Ed,
The parking lights on my 1990 Cadillac deville just began staying on when the switch is turned off.  I had to pull the fuse to get them to stay off and that fuse also powers my speedometer light, license plate light and the relay which sounds the chime to alert you to the light switch being left on.  The chime sounds now when the driver's side door opens even when the switch is off, but it functions normally when the fuse is in place.

The fuse was blown when I took the car in for a state inspection and the tech replaced it with a 25amp fuse though it calls for a 20amp.  Maybe he did that to stop it from blowing the fuse, I don't know, but once I turned the headlights on for the first time since the inspection, the parking lights stayed lit after the headlight switch was turned off.

 Thanks for any suggestion.

Regards,
Ernest

Answer
Hi Ernest

The fuse that was open, was that for the twighlight sentinal,Fuse #14 in the fuse box?
It sounds like the way the park lights operate is you may have a faulty twighlight sentinal module, this will cause your lamps to remain on,i did have a vehicle that kept the lamps on causing the battery to die the following morning and that was the photocell itself had shorted, thats the little eye on top of and near the defrost vent,i would replace that first before the module.
