GMC Repair: Ignition Switch, electronic leak detector, wheel components

Question
Hi there,

My 97 Jimmy 4x4 is having ignition problems.  I need to replace/change the ignition switch.  Could you tell me about how much this would cost to purchase, the actual part or parts needed (CDN$).  Would you think it's worth fixing personally or sending off to a mechanic?

Also, I had to fill up my A/C about 4 times in the past 2 months - is this normal?  If not, what could be wrong?  I got an a/c condenser last year and purchased an a/c compressor not too long ago.  My mechanic said that everything is ok - how is this possible?

Thanks for all your help - much appreciated!

Veronica

Answer
To replace the ignition switch in the steering column requires SPECIAL TOOLS to disassemble the steering wheel components.

There is a LEAK in the ac system and you are losing your FREON due to this leak. You need to find another facility who can detect your leak using an electronic leak detector.

This place that your using now just wants to keep charging you for putting freon in the system instead of fixing the leak as he most likely does not have the leak detector to be able to find your leak.
