GMC Repair: 1993 GMC Sonoma AC conversion - toggle switch to activate compressor, gmc sonoma, ac conversion

Question
Hi there! I have a 1993 GMC Sonoma with a 4.3L V6. I had the AC system vacuumed, accumulator replaced and converted to R134. The compressor, however, would not come on. The guy I had do it wired it direct to the battery to check the compressor and fill the system and it kicked on fine. He measured the incoming volts and said he only registered 7 volts instead of the necessary 12 coming into the compressor through whatever wiring is at the top to trigger the compressor. He said it could be an AC switch problem (I thought that only controlled the inside mechanics(?)) and I could set up a toggle switch to run direct off the battery to the compressor that I could trigger from the cab.
1st - do I have a switch problem or is it wiring? 2nd - would a toggle switch harm the compressor in any way? Would it force the compressor to run continuously?

Thank you in advance for your help,
Robert

Answer
Do NOT even think about installing a toggle switch unless you want to blow up the compressor and spread internal compressor debris thruoghout your entire ac system and spend $2500.00 to get it fixed.

Whoever did this repair is NOT familiar with your type of vehicle and has either added to much refrigerant oil and pr freon and the sensors will not allow the computer to engage the compressor until the EXACT pressure are established within the ac system.

There is a PRESSURE EQUALIZER SENSOR that measures the pressures within the ac system. To MUCH or to LITTLE pressure and NO compressor operation.

Have a competent facility who knows your vehicle CHECK it thoroughly before you have a disastor on your hands.
