Bought this car used, I first started it and it idled for awhile and then stop. I changed the converter. This seem to help, then I drove it awhile and it would just quit. Changed the crank and cam sensor, the problem is still here. I am just about to buy a code reader, but would like your advise first. All the dash indicators test and go out. I too twisted wrenches for awhile, this ones a mind blower.
Answer -
I need more SPECIFIC information.

Does the vehicle start and run ?. Yes, drive it around for awhile, then it quits. Wait for awhile and it starts up.

Is there ignition to ALL the spark plugs ? Yes, checked that too

is there fuel pressure and volume ?. Yes, check it also. Didn't GM have a fuel pump problem during those years?

What does or does NOT work on the vehicle ?. Everything works fine while it running, it seems like someone turns the key off when this thing happens.

Answer
OK, The most common items that fail are:

1. the crank shaft sensor develops an INTERMITTENT random fault which disrupts the signal to the ignition module thru the coil(s) and finally to the spark plugs.

2. The fuel pump intermittently randomly fails.

What mechanical work or ANY kind of work has been performed on the vehicle recently ?. As most problems that occur after a recent repair was made can be traced back to the area of where the repair was made as a vacuum line may have been knocked loose or a wire connection came loose, Look around in the area where work was performed..
