GMC Repair: oil pan removal, pan gasket, safari van

Question
I have a 1999 safari van with 4.3 and I need to change the oil pan gasket does the trans need to be moved back to clear the bellhousing dowal pin

Answer
On a RWD vehicle you have to pull the engine to do it right.

However, I have NEVER tried it, But I have heard that there is a new type oil pan gasket out that if you can get the oil pan down far enough to remove the old gasket this special gasket slides right into place without removing the oil pan completely but I have neither done nor seen one done.
